All year, we’ve been keeping a very close eye on what’s been happening in the music scenes of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Åland, and creating a host of playlists for you to tune in to, to discover the innovative and diverse sounds of the region!
Now, as the year draws to an end, we’re feeling reflective so here’s a run-down of what happened at the Nordic Playlist in 2015 – and make sure to stay in touch in the New Year too, as we bring you more of the best music from the Nordics!

The first month of the year saw us celebrate the Nordic Playlist’s first birthday in serious style, with a special party taking place in Oslo hosting a performance by one of the city’s hottest talents Drippin, who made his own Nordic Playlist in preparation of the party.
As the 2015 musical calendar began to get into full swing, we were very excited to partner up with the Phonofile Nordic Music Prize to present the official shortlist of nominees! Finnish singing sensation Mirel Wagner went on to win the coveted award, and you can check out all of the other nominees that were tipped for success in our dedicated Nordic Playlist.
As well as our teaming up with such a prestigious award, we were very excited to host Icelandic DJ Margeir‘s very own Nordic DJ Mix and to catch up with Rasmus Stolberg of Efterklang/The Lake Radio/Liima, who presented his own recommendations from the North in a special Nordic Playlist in February, before we began our countdown to by:Larm…
The second in our series of live streamed events, the Nordic Playlist Radio Bar landed at by:Larm Festival in Oslo in March 2015! Featuring live sessions from Jonas Alaska, Vök, Beatrice Eli and more, as well as exclusive radio shows created by the likes of Sveriges Radio and NRK P3, the Radio Bar brought a distinctly Nordic flavour not just to the festival, but to audiences at home via our live stream. Discover more from the Radio Bar at by:Larm over at the Nordic Playlist YouTube channel!
As well as performing at the Radio Bar, Jonas Alaska presented his own Nordic Playlist in March, as did Iceland’s Lay Low and Finnish Indie Kids NEØV – explore the full archive of Nordic Playlists here!
The emergence of the summer months, and the turning of the weather always points at one thing – new music, new albums, and new artists to discover and love!
April saw us celebrate this with a series of fantastic Nordic Playlists from the likes of Say Lou Lou, Mew, Nive Nielsen and the Deer Children and WhoMadeWho as well as a specially made video playlist from esteemed music video director and photographer Stian Andersen (known for his work with the likes of Röyksopp, Robyn and Susanne Sundfør), celebrating the launch of the Nordic Music Video Awards 2015!
And what’s the other thing that Spring sunshine stirs up? Our dancing side, of course! Superb Nordic DJ Mixes from Norwegian collective Rytmeklubben and Denmark’s Unkwon got us all moving again, preparing for a very busy Summer to come…
Kicking off with a sumptuous playlist from Iceland’s Sóley as she celebrated the release of a new album Ask The Deep, May saw the Nordic Playlist catch up with outlandish Swedish songstress Zhala for an exclusive filmed interview where we learnt about her most highly recommended Nordic artists. And as the month grew hotter, so did the activity at Nordic Playlist HQ as we took the Radio Bar to Berlin Festival, where we hosted the third edition of the live-streamed event!
For two sun-filled days at the end of May, the Nordic Playlist took over Mysliwska Bar in the heart of Kreuzberg to present a Radio Bar in collaboration with Berlin Festival. Hosting 6 live sessions and 10 specially made Radio programmes, the entire event was live streamed via the Nordic Playlist website, and you can re-live it all by heading to our YouTube channel…
Further highlights from May arrived in the form of summer DJ mixes from Helsinki-based DJ Katerina and Denmark’s phenomenal Taragana Pyjarama – explore our full archive of Nordic Playlist DJ Mixes here!
One of the most anticipated releases of the year was certainly Of Monsters And Men‘s new album Beneath The Skin, which landed at the beginning of June and coincided with a fantastic Nordic Playlist from the band’s lead guitarist Brynjar Leifsson. On a blustery Icelandic summer’s day, Brynjar revealed some of the secrets behind the making of the band’s much anticipated follow up to their multi-platinum debut record, My Head Is An Animal, in an exclusive video interview…
Without a doubt, the busiest month in the Nordic Playlist’s 2015 calendar was July, when we took up residency at the largest music event in the Nordics, Roskilde Festival!
Over the course of a busy week, the Nordic Playlist caught up with a whole host of fantastic artists performing at the 2015 edition of Roskilde Festival!
From interviews with First Aid Kit, Veronica Maggio, Susanne Sundfør and Honningbarna, through to exclusive live sessions from Rangleklods and Broken Twin, the Nordic Playlist was on hand throughout the entire festival to capture the most exciting Nordic events as they happened.
Watch all of the Nordic Playlist’s interviews and videos from the event on our YouTube Channel, and find out even more about the stars of our videos – Sweden’s Veronica Maggio and Denmark’s Rangleklods – by tuning in to their very own Nordic Playlists, which were also published in July.
As Summer got into full swing, so did the Nordic Playlist, releasing our Nordic Summer Soundtrack which is still available for you to tune in to if you’re looking for a perfect excuse to drift back to those sun-laden days. We presented an excellent Nordic Playlist from Finnish songstress Iisa ahead of her performance at Helsinki’s Flow Festival too, as well as a great new DJ Mix from upcoming Swedish duo Canvas.
August was also the month in which a brand new addition to the Nordic Playlist was launched, a pop-tinged corner of the website entitled Trenda – playing host to special edition pop playlists, a weekly updated new music list and of course – the Trenda chart!
The Trenda Nordic Chart presents the best selling and most streamed songs from Nordic artists, producers and songwriters from each of the Nordic countries in one hit-filled playlist, so head to Spotify to follow the playlist now and to be the first to hear to find out what’s trending in the Nordics.
September kicked off with an exhilarating Nordic Playlist from Finnish psych-rockers K-X-P, who invited us to tune in to some of their most coveted Nordic music selections.
As well as crafting a fantastic Nordic Playlist, the band also embarked on a European tour which saw them land at German showcase event, Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg.
A festival which always looks to the North for emerging musical talent, Reeperbahn played host to more than 45 Nordic artists this year, so we headed along to the festival to check them all out, and to film this stunning, stripped back live session with our previous curator Nive Nielsen and the Deer Children while we were there.
An artist that has dominated 2015 like no other is without a doubt Norwegian talent Aurora, who curated her very own Nordic Playlist in October of 2015.
Ahead of her performance at Reeperbahn Festival, we caught up with Aurora for a cosy chat in which she revealed more about her favourite Nordic songs, artists and characteristics from her home country.
The year went from strength to strength for Aurora, who – later on 2015- was selected as the voice to soundtrack the prestigious John Lewis Christmas advert in the UK. Find out more, as well as more about Aurora’s Christmas traditions by clicking just here.
October also saw the Nordic Playlist head to the Nuuk Nordisk Kulturfestival in Greenland, so we took a closer look at the thriving and diverse music scene that the country plays host to in a specially curated Nordic Playlist, which you can listen to right now. Fancy a more dance-inspired introduction to their music scene? Then why not check out an exclusive DJ mix from Greenlandic DJ Uyarakq now…
As the winter winds began to whistle around, we battened down the hatches and settled in for one of the cosiest months in the Nordic Playlist’s history as we launched a special ‘Hygge‘ playlist to listen to with friends by the fireside, as well as inviting Norwegian troubadour Thomas Dybdahl and Swedish super-group Amason to present their own Nordic Playlists.
The weather’s still cold friends, so why not light up that fire and strike up one of these hand-made playlists to help you through the remaining winter months?
Wrapping up a phenomenal year full of excellent music, playlists, interviews, sessions, live events and more, we were thrilled to have two artists that are record breakers and chart toppers join us to round off 2015. Norway’s Nico & Vinz led us through a collection of their most influential and loved Nordic tunes, before Danish power-pop Queen MØ took the mantel, offering up an unmissable playlist packed full of new Nordic tunes that she herself adores.
And as the Christmas season got underway, we re-visited previous Nordic Playlist curators Aurora, Sóley, Eivør and The Raveonettes to find out what to cook, what to sing, what to read, and how to write the best Christmas song ever.
2015 may now be at an end, but the Nordic Playlist will continue to bring the finest Nordic music to your doorstep throughout the New Year!
Keep in touch with us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and by signing up to our mailing list, as we’ll make sure that you’re the first to hear about the most exciting musical happenings in the Nordics!
