It’s no secret that Iceland is a hot-bed for new music, constantly offering up emerging, inspiring and innovative new music from a huge range of artists!
Here at the Nordic Playlist, we keep a close eye on the latest news to help you stay as up to date with the happenings of the Icelandic music scene as possible – be that bringing you news of Vök‘s debut album and upcoming tour, the latest line up news from Iceland Airwaves Festival, or collaborative tracks from the likes of Emilíana Torrini, Ólafur Arnalds, Sóley and more.
With so much music arriving from Iceland on a daily basis, we’ve enlisted the help of Rás 2 Radio presenter Matthías Már Magnússon to share his favourite up and coming sound with us on a regular basis. A connoisseur of the underground, Matti can give us a better insight into this bubbling scene than anyone else, as he demonstrated when he joined us at the Nordic Playlist Radio Bar at Slush Music in Helsinki back in November 2016.
Matti has now freshly updated his Nordic Playlist with some of his favourite new tracks – so find out more about them just below, tune in to hear which songs are making waves in Iceland, and ‘follow‘ the playlist on Spotify to stay up to date!
Starwalker – Get Me
“Barði (Bang Gang) and Jean-Benoît Dunckel (Air) form Starwalker, and this is the title track from their first album which was nominated at the Icelandic Music Awards.”
Sturla Atlas – Time
“The first new song from the highly anticipated new mix tape from Sturla Atlas.”
Sólstafir – Ísafold
“Sólstafir return with another rock banger, a great tune that demands the volume to be turned up to 11!”
Reykjavikurdætur – kalla mig hvað?
“In my opinion their best song to date, they truly are a force to be reckoned with, and a great live band – if you see that they’re set to play at a festival or in our city, go! That’s an order.”
