We’ve all found ourselves in very different circumstances recently, with lots of us confined to our homes and some of our favourite things – such as heading to live shows with our friends – on hold for the foreseeable future.
One of the best things that we can do to keep busy and happy during this period is to keep discovering, listening to and loving new music – which is why we’ve launched the Ja Ja Ja Takeover Series! Join us in the coming weeks as we introduce you to some of our favourite up and coming artists from the Nordics, including Molly Hammar who’s joined us for a Spotlight Interview to tell us more about her brand new single ‘Alone’.
Read on to find out more, and join us on Instagram as Molly takes over our account today!
For those that haven’t met you yet, can you please introduce yourself? Who you are, where you’re from and what you do?
Hey I’m Molly, a Swedish RnB angel 🙂 I love singing, I love love, I love making people feel better about themselves through my music. I’m originally from the northern part of Sweden (Umeå) but I live in Stockholm. My parents are jazz musicians so I guess music is in my blood and I’m so happy I get to do what I feel I was meant be doing, which is singing for you.
Who (or what!) have been some of your greatest inspirations when making music?
Inspiration comes to me in the weirdest and most unexpected ways. Sometimes it’s on a date, sometimes it’s walking on the street, hearing someones relationship problems, sometimes it’s listening to a Drake interview and so on… Although I always get inspired when i’m near water and nature. I would love to write my first album near water.
What was the first album you remember falling in love with?
Westlife’s first album hahah.. I’m a real fangirl at heart.
And which was your first ever concert?
It was definitely one of my parents concerts. I grew up backstage and sometimes on the stage singing a little song with my dad.
You’ve got a brand new single out today called ‘Alone’ – a very fitting title for the times that we’re living through! Can you tell us a little bit about ‘Alone’ and the message behind it?
I know it’s crazy how well fitting the theme is right now. I think loneliness is something we struggle with in general though, we just talk about it more now that it’s more obvious (which I think is good, you should talk more). ”Alone” is a song about someone not able to handle their everyday loneliness- and therefore continuously looking for happiness and I guess a safety in different people. It’s a song you’re gonna want to sing to your ex haha.
And you co-write the song with the excellent Ella Erye – how did that collaboration come about?
I had the song sent to me and immediately loved it and did my thing on it basically. It’s such an honor releasing a song with Ella Eyre since I’ve listened to her since forever. Definitely a big moment having her and all the other songwriters onboard.
We’ve also heard that the song is taken from your forthcoming second EP – when can we expect that to land, and what were your ambitions when creating the EP?
Yes indeed, there’s going to be an EP. I like to think of my project as if it’s going into different phases. Now i’m in another phase than the ”SEX” EP i released two years ago for example. I love developing my sound and I love that the whole project gets bigger and bigger. It’s a dream coming true!
How have you been keeping yourself busy during these quieter days?
I’ve been working a lot on myself if I’m honest. Working out, eating well, sleeping a lot, i’ve been dating a little bit trying to stay on top of my personal game because I know that my career gets even better when I feel better. Take care of yourselves! It’s a great time to start meditating and taking a lot of deep breathes.
We know it’s been quite disrupted, but what do you hope the rest of 2020 will hold for you?
I hope 2020 is going to heal, comeback even stronger and bring a lot of positivity in the end. I’m staying positive and gonna continue to bring music into the world and hopefully make people feel less lonely.
And finally, we always like to ask – do you have any good new music tips to share with us?
I don’t listen to a lot of Swedish music if I’m completely honest, we have some amazing artists though. Jireel, Seinabo Sey, Zikai to mention a few. All of them are bringing fire to the music scene.
