It was just a few months ago that we shared ‘Resist‘ from Norway’s Hôy La – an artist also known as Ingri Høyland Kvamstad. At the time, we described the song as one which was “builds itself a world of half-light and shadowy intent“, a captivating little number that has kept us completely enchanted ever since.

After such an intriguing start, Hôy La returns today to offer up a brand new track called ‘Please’, a song consisting of samples from a long lost 1972 Chinese folk song, and touches of haunting piano, recorded in Hôy La’s childhood home.

The result is a deep and dusky offering, full of resonating bass tones and lush, hypnotic vocal touches. Hôy La once again teamed up with The Entrepreneurs’ drummer Jonas Wetterslev for the production of the song, which comes accompanied by a striking new video, filmed in various architecturally remarkable spots in and around Oslo.

Guided by Hôy La herself, the video was filmed by photographer Jonas Svarstad whose eye for distinctive colours and bold outlines seems to perfectly reflect the powerful, yet understated tone of the song.

Check out ‘Please’ right here at Ja Ja Ja, as we proudly premiere the video for the song today – and make sure to keep a close eye on Hôy La in 2018, as we have a feeling that these debut tracks are the start of something very special indeed…
