For anyone who was listening to Swedish pop back in 2012, the name Amanda Mair may just ring a bell. It was the year that the at-the-time 16 year old released her self-titled debut album, to much critical acclaim, frequently drawing favourable comparisons to Kate Bush and Lykke Li, amongst others. Since then, however, new material has been in short supply from the Stockholm based singer.
Fast forward to 2017 and Mair is back, with a new five track EP To the Moon, featuring ‘Stay You & I’ released as the first single. Unsurprisingly, there’s an obviously more mature sound compared to her debut offerings. Described by the singer herself as being a “triumphant song about overcoming personal problems to salvage a relationship“, what’s clear is that a lot of thought has gone into this track. It’s a slow-burner; part ballad, part electro-pop anthem – a cleverly crafted song which gets better with each listen and ends on a glorious high.
