Sumie Nagano, aka Sumie, is the Gothenburg based singer who treated us to the “subtly cinematic” ‘Leave Me‘ earlier this year. Now, she’s back with another soft and tender record, ‘Fortune’, which is perfect for listening to now the clocks have gone back and the nights draw in.
Taken from her upcoming second album, Lost In Light, it’s a song full of introspection and uses Sumie’s haunting vocals to stunning effect, creating a stirring atmosphere. It’s simple, but effective, and strays just the right side of morose. With mournful lyrics such as “summer came for the last time”, it wouldn’t take much to convince us that Lana Del Rey had songwriting credits on this one.
With a video to accompany the track, featuring Sumie herself dancing in front of a grainy black and white projection, it’s a low key affair, but fits the tone of the track perfectly.
Lost in Light will be released on 10th November via Bella Union, but Fortune is out now in the UK. Take a listen below.
