Esther Vallee joins a long line of uber-talented young singers emerging from Sweden at the moment, and while the 24 year old hinted at her potential with previous singles ‘Crush’, ‘Hard Time/Your Name’, this latest offering, ‘Numbers’, is by far her best to date.
Hailing from just outside Gothenburg, Vallee has worked with Jonas Quant again for this track. Quant was responsible for Hurts’ success with Happiness earlier this year as well as having experience writing with fellow Swede Agnes and pop royalty Kylie Minogue and Leona Lewis, so it’s no surprise then that the result is a slick little number, with a hella catchy chorus and a tight backing track. But don’t let the innocent appearance fool you, as Vallee says “The song is about dark forbidden love. By using codes, you disguise the love to hide it for the outside world. Destructive with a great mix of passion.”
Based on this showing, the future is bright for Vallee. Expect to be hearing a lot more from her in 2018. For now though, watch the video for ‘Numbers’ below:
