As a modern pop star, Tove Lo can lay claim to being the full package – energetic live performances, buckets of talent and the ability to reach out to a wider audience, the Swedish singer is understandably one of the biggest stars to emerge from the country in recent years. Her debut album, Queen of the Clouds was a commercial success and the follow up, Lady Wood was arguably one of the finest pop records of 2016, with ‘True Disaster‘ standing out as one of the most underrated singles of the year. Similarly, whilst it slipped under the radar of most people, her appearance on Coldplay’s ‘Fun’ confirmed her status as a singer/songwriter of the highest calibre.
The first song from her upcoming album Blue Lips [Lady Wood Phase II], ‘Disco Tits’ roams within familiar territory – sexually charged and unashamed in its approach, some of the lyrics and production will be familiar to anyone who has followed Lo’s rise to success. What might seem like a gimmick in the hands of another pop star feels genuine here – discordant tones, retro vocals and a bass heavy chorus form the staple of a track that will no doubt feature heavily not only in Lo’s live sets over the next few years, but also dance floors up and down the country for the foreseeable future. Sticking to her tried and tested formula this is not as adventurous as might have been expected from someone with Lo’s pedigree, but as the saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Expect to hear a lot more of ‘Disco Tits’ over the next few months – make no mistake about it, this is a cracker of a single and confirms that there’s plenty to be excited about with the arrival of her third studio album soon. Out now, take a listen to ‘Disco Tits’ for yourself below:
