Brian Batz, the bunny mask-wearing multi-instrumentalist ingenue behind Sleep Party People returns to us with a brand new track, ‘The Missing Steps’ and news of an album Lingering dropping 2nd June on Joyful Noise.

“I’ll climb the stairs with the missing steps, if I fall, I’ll just fall in love with you,” Batz sings in that unmistakeable sotto voce against a dreamy patchwork of cotton candy beats and angelic synths. He’s joined in the song’s rousing climax by a ‘DIY Gospel Choir’ of local Copenhagen names such as Irah, Disa and Luster.

Lingering will be Batz’s fourth album and once again he’s written, recorded and produced it himself, this time with vocal contributions from The Antlers’ Pete Silberman, Luster and Beth Hirsch. ‘The Missing Steps’ is a beautiful, blissful re-introduction to the off-kilter, otherworldly spaces Sleep Party People create through their music. Close your eyes and sink deep into it, below.
