Ever since the age of 16, Norway’s Kai Gundelach has been working on establishing himself as a prominent figure in Oslo’s renowned club scene, with his musical ambitions lying within the crafting of honest pop songs, which he works on from his bedroom in Oslo.
In 2014, Kai began to share his songs as Gundelach and was soon contacted by Swedish duo Say Lou Lou, who invited him to support them on tour and Gundelach’s first song ‘Alone in the Night’ made a profound impact online, gathering over a million streams to date.
Gundelach’s official debut single ‘Spiders’ is the first offering from the EP which he recorded in New York with Joel Ford and Al Carlson. The tune combines intricate electronics overlaid with wispy vocals and pulsating beats,a refined and powerful pop song from one of Norway’s finest, so make sure to catch one of his performances at by:Larm!
Alice Boman [SWE]
Alice Boman has become a firm favourite of many Nordic Playlist’s curators so far. Timeless and direct, the Swedish singer returned in 2014 with a wistful collection of songs in the form of album EP II after the stunning debut EP Skisser landed the year before.
2015 saw the Malmö native mostly touring around Europe but also let her to stop by in the USA and Brazil and was also the year that gave birth to Jaakko Eino Kalevi’s remix of ‘Be Mine’, the song which was also featured in the coming-of-age movie Paper Towns by director Jake Schreier, before Alice herself was invited to appear in hit Internet series Transparent, the PAL remix of her track ‘Waiting’ playing a pivotal role throughout the show’s second series.
Alice has been busy working on new songs in the last couple of months, so we can’t wait to get a glimpse of what we can expect from the Swedish singer in 2016!
Sonny Alven [NOR]
21-year-old Norwegian producer and DJ Sonny Alven has been building a huge reputation through a steady stream of highly sophisticated original tracks and remixes over the last year. The diversity of his musical tastes is remarkable, and his first original ‘Where Do We Go’ became an instant hit in the Nordic countries.
Sonny’s third original release ‘Our Youth’, featuring the up-and-coming London native Emmi, caught the ears of executives at Pepsi who decided to use it for their viral campaign ‘Dancing in the Rain’, and the stylish video – shot at Øya Festival in Oslo – gained more than 3 million views in just a couple of days.
‘Make It Personal’ is the name of the Norwegian producer’s newest track which is due to be out on March 4th. The song is a collaboration with electro pop duo ENDEMIX and is also the first taster of Sonny’s upcoming EP which will be released later this year…
Niki & The Dove [SWE]
Recent Nordic Playlist curators Niki & The Dove make super catchy electronic pop music with influences from basically every decade of pop history. Since 2010 they’ve been resonating in everyone’s ears thanks to the captivating track ‘Mother Protect’ with came into the Swedish music scene like a breath of fresh air.
Their pivotal pop tunes saw them listed as ‘The Sound of 2012’ by the BBC, as well as landing record deals with renowned record labels Sub Pop in the States and Mercury in Europe, and with their video for their recent release ‘So Much it Hurts’ now making its way around the Internet-sphere, what better time to check out this unmissable duo than at the upcoming by:Larm Festival in Oslo!
