Norwegian band Lovespeake have their roots in their former incarnation, a band called Eye Emma Jedi, who got some hype on the blogs a few years back but never really got any further (possibly due to their questionable name). Anyway, happily they’ve rebranded and have refined their sharp pop skills, as the very positive reaction to their debut single ‘DNA’, which dropped in January, proved. Now they’re back with a follow-up, ‘Tightrope’.
‘Tightrope’ is absolutely pure, unfiltered pop music drained from the cleanest water in the, um, pop river (I’m going to spare us all and stop this metaphor now). It bounces along on an irresistible synth riff, complimented by little dabs of guitar and popping drum beats. There are very strong Phoenix vibes about this song, and that’s always a good thing. ‘Tightrope’ is a bright, shiny pop tune, and as summer approaches its sun-kissed melodies are only going to sound better. ‘Tightrope’ is out now on Toothfairy Records.
