Arctic Sounds

The Arctic city of Sisimiut is about to be taken over by a host of artists from the glacial North! 

Arctic Sounds festival will take place between the 7th – 10th April 2016 in Sisimiut, bringing artists from throughout the country – as well as further afield in the Nordics – to the festival’s stages. With around 5,000 inhabitants, Sisimiut is the second largest town in Greenland and each year, becomes the location for a festival celebrating not just music, but performance, artistry and the culture and sound of Greenland itself. The event is well known for presenting a diverse range of artists, and showcasing the wealth of talent brewing in the towns of the iciest spot in the Nordic neighbourhood – and this year’s line up is a shining example of just how much stunning music is to be found there. Arctic SOunds Boasting a line up of both new and well-loved Greenlandic artists such as indie-rockers Nanook and mesmerising songstress Nina, the festival will also bring electronic musicians to the forefront this year, hosting sets from Nordic Playlist DJ Mix-master Uyarakq and the hugely acclaimed Copenhagen based DJ Henri Matisse.  Nuuk native Peand-eL and Qaqortoq’s Nikolaj Lønstrup will be on hand to lend an urban edge to the event, as Faroese artists Rökkvi and Punjab bring their talents to the festival’s stages. Norwegian collectives KUUK and Likholmen, Sweden’s Mattias Jonsson and Sofia Ekberg, and The Embla and Postyr from Denmark will also make their way to Sisimiut to take part in the festivities.
