Swedish-Danish trio Lust For Youth seemed to be on the back burner for a while after frontman Hannes Norrvide took time off to work on a side-project, Norin, late last year. However, the break was a short-term one, as the band have now announced the release of a new album, Compassion, and they’ve also released the opening track from that record, ‘Stardom’, as a single.
Working on more obscure sounds with Norin appears to have given Norrvide freedom to explore his poppier instincts here. ‘Stardom’ is, as the name might suggest, an irrepressibly bright and shiny track, built around a sparky synth line. Norrvide’s singing voice is deeply unusual, one that occasionally morphs into a droning wail, but it suits the track well here, providing just the right sense of reach and yearning at the crucial moments. ‘Stardom’ is out now and Compassion will be released on March 18th via Sacred Bones Records, with a string of dates lined up for the spring, including Berlin’s Lido on April 6th and London’s Moth Club on April 22nd – full dates can be found here.
