In 2015, Helsinki’s Jaakko Eino Kalevi proved once again that he stands up to the acclaim surrounding his person. It was the year that the Finnish songwriter released Jaakko Eino Kalevi, his first full-length record outside of his native Finland and an album which introduced the artist to an avid international audience on the back of captivating tracks such as ‘No End’ and ‘Double Talk’.
We’ve already invited Jaakko to share his favourite sounds from the North by curating his very own Nordic Playlist, so now we’re catching up with him again to see what this unique star predicts for the New Year! What were you playing on your stereo as the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve?
House versions of early 2000s hip-hop and RnB hits.
What was your biggest, or happiest achievement of 2015?
I have to mention getting my newest album out – that was great!
And what is your main ambition for 2016?
A new level of power and confidence.
Do you believe in New Year’s resolutions? If so, what are your resolutions for 2016 (and are you any good at keeping them)?!
Yes. Go to the gym, stop drinking, eat healthier, meditate, spend more time with my friends and family, read more, be kinder to animals, volunteer. I am a little bit good at keeping them.
What do you think will be the best new invention of 2016?
A fish tank that you wouldn’t have to maintain at all.
What will be the biggest fashion trend in 2016?
Wearing clothes inside out.
What are you most looking forward to in the New Year?
I am looking forward to it as a holistic experience. 2016 is such a great number!

Anton Hammer. Especially his Brian Emo songs.
