Celebrate Christmas with Aurora…

What is your absolute favourite thing about the Christmas season?!

Aurora: Snow!

Where will you be spending Christmas this year and what are you most excited about?

I will be spending Christmas at home. I can’t wait. I’m mostly excited about being with my family – all of us, together. We’ll be out in the snow, we’ll watch Home Alone 1 & 2. And we’ll listen to a lot of Christmas music while dancing in our pyjamas. We all have matching pyjamas every year. It’s lovely.

And thank you for sharing your favourite Christmas songs with us! Which is your all time favourite Christmas song, and why? And what do you love about the others on your list?

I think my all time favourite must be… ‘A Fairytale In New York’ (lovely title!) I love folk music, and I love Irish music. I often use music for sentimental purposes, but this song only makes me happy. It brings out memories from Christmasses in the past, but only the best ones.

We love the song that you made to accompany the John Lewis advert, it’s made us feel extra special Christmassy this year, so we wanted to ask – which gift would you send to the man on the moon?

Thank you so much! Well… I think the telescope was a brilliant idea. You can have a lot of fun just observing things from a quiet place. Maybe I would send him a cat to keep him company. Or a magic bell that would play all the most wonderful music he could ever imagine. The moon would be more colourful if he had music.

2016 is just around the corner, so what will your New Year’s resolution be?

It’s strange how New Year’s Eve is so different than other days. I’ll make sure to steal a moment for myself, and think about everything that has happened this year.

It’s been an adventure. It’s been hard, wonderful and frightening at the same time. I’ll sit down and watch the fireworks paint the sky and go through all my memories. I’ll probably realise how much has changed. That the small things that seemed so important at the time, are not important anymore.

I’ve been diving very deep into every single detail of my work. I’ve had times where I could only think about what I could’ve done better. I’ve been away from home a lot. I’ve been very frightened. I am about to enter a very strange and different world.

It’s been a very emotional year, and on New Year’s Eve, I’ll make sure to remember all the fun I had. All the people I’ve met, and the people we have lost. Every year we lose many people. The world is so much bigger than ourselves… And I can’t change the world. But I can affect my surroundings.

I want to help through my music, we need to make our own light during dark times. I wish to never forget why I started writing in the first place. Why I want to be a musician. And that is my only wish for 2016.

How good are you at keeping New Year’s resolutions?

Well, it depends, I’m a very determined little creature. And if I make myself a promise, I will do everything I can to keep it. One year I told myself to not eat candy ever again (I think I was around 12) and of course that didn’t happen… But I always make sure to at least try. Some resolutions are more important than others. Spiritual resolutions mean a bit more to me than a life without candy.

What do you think will be the best new discovery of 2016?

I hope I’ll discover my inner voice. I know a bit about it, but not everything. I want to make pure music from the deepest core of my heart. I want to make the perfect AURORA song.

Where do you hope 2016 will take you?

I’ve already been taken to many places. I’m almost hoping that 2016 will just be a continuation of what I’m already experiencing. I don’t need anything, I’m very happy with things as they are. I don’t know where 2016 might take me! But I am ready. As long as there is music and laughter on the way.

And finally, what do you think the most exciting thing about 2016 will be?

Evolving.
