Tove Lo, who has recently made a name for herself as one of Sweden’s most exciting new pop artists, was previously a songwriter for publishing house Warner/Chappell Music before breaking as a performing artist, and was also well acquainted with Max Martin before topping charts with music of her own. Tove Lo and Max Martin‘s collaborations resulted in Ellie Goulding‘s smash hit ‘Love Me Like You Do’ (written together with Ilya Salmanzadeh, another professional Swedish songwriter), which featured in the blockbuster film adaption of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.
Currently storming the songwriting business is Norwegian writer/producer duo Stargate. Stargate are based in New York City, and comprises the united talents of Mikkel Eriksen and Tor Hermansen who, following earlier success, moved from Trondheim, Norway to the US. Notable hits include songs written for artists such as Rihanna, Iggy Azalea and Queen Bee herself, Beyoncé Knowles.
Stargate originally wrote the track ‘Come & Get It’ for Rihanna, but after she left it unrecorded it was passed on to Selena Gomez and went on to become a worldwide sensation. The duo co-owns the record label and publishing company StarRoc, together wih Jay-Z and featured with the song ‘Irreplaceable’ by Beyoncé which they co-wrote together with Espionage – another Norwegian songwriting duo based in New York!
