Having only just released his album Please last year to widespread acclaim, Norway’s Sondre Lerche is back with a new EP! Well, OK, so it’s one new song and a series of fine remixes, but we’re not complaining. Recorded during the same sessions as Please, but left out because it didn’t fit with the rest of the album thematically, ‘Despite The Night’ is nonetheless very similar in style and arrangement: strongly melodic pillow-soft indie rock for the lovelorn daydreamers amongst us.
Lerche’s voice is, as ever, a unique delight – the combination of his nostalgic timbre with a more contemporary arrangement gives his songs a quality that’s quite unlike anyone else making music today. If this is your first encounter with the music of Sondre Lerche, then ‘Despite The Night’ is as good a place as any to start – check it out below.
