Although Communions appear at first glance to be tightly bonded to the Copenhagen scene which spawned Iceage and Vår – having released music on Loke Rahbek’s Posh Isolation label only deepens the links – the moment the vocals appear a minute or so into ‘So Long Sun’ we’re taken away from Denmark and placed firmly in the north-west of England.
Brothers Martin and Mads Rehof, Jacob van Deurs Formann and Frederik Lind Köppen are the men who make up Communions and the pop jangle of this track, which follows their Cobblestones EP from earlier in the year, reveals their love of all things from that aforementioned part of the UK. You can hear The Stone Roses in the guitars, a nod to the 60s in the wheezing organ and the acid-soaked euphoria of the chorus could only be influenced by the Second Summer of Love.
