One of the best weeks for catching live Nordic music in the UK is coming up!
With the first ever London show for Norway’s Emilie Nicolas, a festival spangled with unmissable Nordic artists, cool DJs and Sweden’s Little Dragon as the cherry on top, could you really ask for more? Check out this week’s Nordic Gig Guide to find out where to catch the shows and when!
Weds 16/Thurs 17 July – Emilie Nicolas, The Lexington and Somerset House, London – Tickets
Norway’s much hyped and super talented singer and songwriter Emilie Nicolas plays her first ever London gig on Wednesday, and she definitely takes no prisoners. Armed with super-songs like ‘Pstereo’ and ‘Grown Up’ and a tight gigging schedule, she seems determined to take the city by storm. She begins by performing at Ja Ja Ja’s home venue, The Lexington, on Wednesday before supporting Scotland’s Chvrches at Somerset House on Thursday and taking to the stage at Latitude Festival at the weekend. Make sure to catch her as soon as you can!
Thurs 17th July & Sat 19th July – Kopparberg Urban Forest with Project Fresh Socks and Little Dragon (DJ), London – Free
The Urban Forest in Dalston continues to offer Londoners a nice supply of Nordic music on a weekly basis throughout July. For the third time, Ja Ja Ja’s excellent in-house DJ duo Project Fresh Socks will select the best tracks to go with your Summer night drinks on Thursday. And on Saturday, none other than Sweden’s Little Dragon will take to the decks, prior to their gig at Somerset House later that evening.
Thurs 17th July – Sun 20th July –Latitude Festival with Agnes Obel, Ásgeir, Broken Twin, Elliphant, Emilie Nicolas, Lykke Li, First Aid Kit, Robyn & Röyksopp, Seinabo Sey, Southwold – Tickets
Travelling to the east coast and the Latitude Festival this weekend will provide you with a healthy dose of Nordic music, along with some big international names. Nordic acts set to play are Denmark’s Broken Twin and Agnes Obel (who played sold out shows in London last week), Iceland’s Ásgeir and Norway’s Emilie Nicolas. Swedish acts include Lykke Li, First Aid Kit, Seinabo Sey, Elliphant and Robyn together with Norway’s Röyksopp. Artists of this caliber need little introduction, and this is definitely a must-go festival for lovers of music from the north. Londoners should keep an eye open for Seinabo Sey, since she’s playing a semi-private gig in Notting Hill next week too!
Sun 20th July – Little Dragon, Somerset House, London – Sold out
As if there weren’t already enough super artists around this week, London will be able to enjoy Little Dragon, as they take to the stage of Somerset House. In the midst of touring Europe after crossing the US, Sweden’s electro/R’n’B royalty will end the week in style with their gig on Sunday night. If you didn’t get tickets in time for this event, we recommend visiting Kopparberg’s Urban Forest in Dalston, where the band will be DJing this Saturday night.
