Swedish alt-pop five-piece Simian Ghost began life as the brain child of singer Sebastian Arnström who, after releasing a solo album under the moniker, soon recruited four friends and Simian Ghost graduated to a fully fledged experimental pop tour de force. Their latest album, entitled The Veil, showcases a fully realised band unafraid to push the boundaries of modern pop and infuse it with renewed confidence.
Their new single ‘Never Really Knew’ shows off the funkier side of Simian Ghost as the infectious hi-hat and melodic bass line drive the song into an uplifting chorus filled with harmonies and Arnström’s delicate near falsetto vocals. The video for the track, filmed in Iceland’s capital Reykjavík, is the perfect accompaniment, telling the story of a boy and a girl joyously dancing their way towards one another across the inescapably beautiful Icelandic landscape, until they finally meet and a gloriously unexpected twist is revealed. We won’t spoil it for you, just watch the video below.
