The music created by Icelandic native Lovísa Sigrúnardóttir, who goes by the moniker Lay Low, may not quite be what you’d expect from someone who has spent most of her life in the glacial wilds just outside the Arctic circle. Her songs are informed by American blues and wisps of folk coupled with punchy, compressed beats calling to mind a mix of Vashti Bunyan and Coco Rosie.
This unique blend of the traditional and unconventional is shown off to stunning effect in her new single ‘Our Conversations’, taken from her latest album Talking About The Weather. The track is a bittersweet ballad about the strains of communicating with the one you love, but ultimately finding comfort in those little silences.
The video for the song stands as a perfect metaphor, following a couple who spar with each other both verbally and during a boxing match, collecting bruises emotionally as well as physically. But reason wins out in the end and tenderness is restored with ‘Our Conversations’ serving as the perfect soundtrack to their emotional journey.
