Simian Ghost

Transforming from Sebastian Arnström’s one-man bedroom project into a three-piece band has been the making of Sweden’s Simian Ghost. 2012’s Youth album showed the benefits of the addition of Erik Klinga and Mathias Zachrisson, the duo adding some gentle muscle to the band’s sweet indie pop. Eighteen months on and the band are back with a new track ahead of their hotly-anticipated epic new album The Veil, to be released through Playground/Heist or Hit Records in April.

‘Echoes of Songs (for Trish Keenan)’ is a touching tribute to the late Broadcast vocalist, and sounds very much like that band in its gentle chamber pop stylings. Helped by vocalist Maja Agnevik, you’d have to have a heart of stone not to swoon over the four minutes of beauty here, beauty that recalls the much-missed UK act The Clientele in its retro simplicity. Our breath is baited as we wait for an hour of this sort of thing come April…
