The new single from Sweden’s mysterious pop trio Archipelago, is a wonderful mixture of soothing vocals composed around a cool hybrid of synths. Vocals border on deep melancholia, while the song remains beautiful in its passion and poise , as the unknown singer sings beseechingly, “Say something, open your heart, give me a reason , to let you start…”
The variance in the band’s music is particularly contrasted in the b-side, ‘Always In Peninsular Positions’. Devoid of vocals, with the soundscape of planes taking flight to some distant land, it could easily fit into the soundtrack of a Studio Ghibli production.
‘Do You Feel The Same’ takes a different route; sombre synths, and the slight sound of bagpipes along shimmering chimes, pitch a perfect start to the track. And when you thought the song couldn’t get any better, the ’80s style electric guitar solo gently makes its way in, giving the single an extra pop championing kick, alongside the pounding and danceable backing drums. If these two tracks are anything to go by, Archipelago are definitely ones to watch.
