The Danish have never been afraid of musical experimentation and it seems that Ja Ja Ja club night alumni Bodebixen have gone and done it again.

Crafting a truly delightful take on dreampop indie that floats along like the brightest stratonimbus in the summer sky, these Danes have really created something beautiful that would sit happily alongside any slice of sunshine on your summertime playlists. Now that’s a lot of sun mentions in one piece of writing!

Two of the most engaging and enthralling artists currently to be found on the Icelandic music circuit joined forces recently to create this understated, beautiful session for our best buddies over at The Line of Best Fit. Futile Claps, the latest offering from Gothenburg’s seemingly never ending musical conveyor belt, effortlessly knocking out bands all with a quality stamp firmly planted on their musical posterior.

Sticking closely to the tried and tested blueprint of summery indie pop that the Swedes do so well, they have taken a new slant on the Gothenburg sound. Driving baselines that beg your hips to gyrate, catchy choruses and jangly guitars are the name of the game in this, their debut offering. If this is just a taster of what is to come then expect to be seeing a lot more of these young pups.

Röyksopp return today with a new release, a new light inspired video and some brand new tracks thanks to the Late Night Tales compilation series! 

To date, the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Friendly Fires and Four Tet have all been invited to curate mixes for the series, and for the latest release, it’s Norway’s very own Röyksopp that have been asked to take the reins.

The Röyksopp curated Late Night Tales is released today and features tracks from Vangelis, John Martyn, This Mortal Coil and XTC as well as a brand new intro track from the Norwegian duo, and their cover of Depeche Mode’s ‘Ice Machine’ which is available to hear exclusively here at Ja Ja Ja.

Denmark’s Kill J is a mysterious new artist on the Scandinavian music scene, there’s already a lot of intrigue surrounding her. The fresh and superb single, ‘Phoenix’, is a song about the cyclical nature of pleasure and pain, with bittersweet and gorgeously melancholic undertones.

A perfectly poised mixture of instruments sit alongside the pure vocals of the singer, interspersed with bass and drum beats that drop with pounding precision, softly creating a melody that cinches the song to perfection. Soulful and experimental, ‘Phoenix’ exudes an Indian influence, while maintaining an alternative R’n'B sound.

Kill J has produced a powerful and scintillating track with ‘Phoenix’, one which shows darkly poetic influences as well as her dance and classical music background.

Already scoring over 1000 plays in just a couple of days, this is one of the best Scandinavian tracks we’ve heard in a while and something tells us there’s much more where this came from.

So we here at Ja Ja Ja are absolutely thrilled to be able to reveal that Terje’s brand new single ‘Strandbar (disko)’ very much lives up to the expectations created by recent tracks/hits/bangers ‘Inspector Norse’ and the Lindstrøm laden ‘Lanzarote‘.

Just weeks after announcing that they’re heading to London to take part in the first ever Ja Ja Ja Festival in November, Iceland’s mùm have revealed the exciting news that there’s also a new album on the way!

Smilewound, the band’s sixth album, will be released via Morr Music on the 6th September 2013, and a taste of things to come has been offered out in the form of first single ‘Toothwheels’.
