Supreme electro-R’n’B from Denmark, Swedish pop from Melodifestivalen and new electronic grooves from Norway – the Trenda: New Nordic Pop playlist has been updated with loads of new tunes!
The biggest news in Danish indie pop last week was without a doubt the release of CHINAH‘s debut album Once the Lights Are On.
Their track ‘Colder’ has been selected to play part of the Trenda: New Nordic Pop playlist, and is a shining example of the slick electro-R’n’B that group have been fine-tuning over the past two years. And if their performance at Where’s the Music? in Norrköping over the weekend is anything to go by, we’re sure we’ll see more of this Copenhagen-based trio very soon…
Melodifestivalen is a huge deal in Sweden, a tough fought competition where artists and performers battle to represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest. And it is this show which brought the name of Sweden’s Mimi Werner to everyone’s lips and ears a couple of weeks ago.
Even though the live performance wasn’t quite enough to take her to the competition finals, her song ‘Ain’t No Good’ has since racked up over 180,000 streams on Spotify. If Mimi continues to pursue her career as an artist and songwriter, it wouldn’t be the first time an artist who didn’t make it all the way to the finishing line ends up walking home with the real victory in Melodifestivalen, so keep your eyes firmly fixed on this rising star!
Switching over to a more electronic side of things, this week’s Trenda: New Nordic Pop update has lots to offer. Norway’s Jerry Folk return with more new music, having released electronic groover ‘To My Soul’ just a couple of weeks ago.
This time, Jerry Folk are accompanied by esteemed Danish DJ ELOQ (who also plays part in Copenhagen electronic outfit AV AV AV), and have hinted towards several further releases this spring. So far it looks and sounds very promising, so keep a close eye on the Nordic Playlist as we bring you all of the latest news from this exciting collaboration!
